About Outpost BBS

Outpost BBS is a hobby I’ve had since 1998 when I opened my first public bulletin board system (BBS). The BBS is running MBSE BBS under Slackware 64 Linux on a HPE ProLiant ML110 G6 server (quad-core Intel Xeon CPU X3430 @ 2.4ghz, 8GB RAM, 2.5TB of storage) on a 750/750 fiber optic Internet connection.
I am a member of the MBSE Development Team. I contribute occasional code and work on converting the manual from HTML to LaTeX to create a professional manual for MBSE.
You can get details and statistics about the BBS by connecting to the BBS’ Web server.
You can connect to the Outpost via telnet to telnet://bbs.outpostbbs.net. I recommend using SyncTerm (Windows/Linux/FreeBSD/Mac OSX), ZOC (Windows), or HyperTeminal (yes, HT still works great) to connect to the Outpost with.
Verified users can connect using SSH.
No guest access available.
If you decide to create an account, please know that creating an account on the BBS will require you to disclose your real name and other personal information for sysop use only. New accounts are usually verified within 24 hours. Incomplete and fake accounts will be deleted.
Networked Mail
Outpost BBS is the home of Cheepware BBS doors and utilities; The Micronet Information Network (zone 618); and the Fidonet BBS_ADS, CHWARE, CLASSIC_COMPUTER, COOKING, DIABETES, GOLDED, HAM, and OTHERNETS echomail conferences.
The BBS is a member of the following networks:
- Fidonet: I offer node (must have an assigned node number) and point feeds for Fidonet via BinkP, FTP, mailer over telnet, and ifcico. For more information about a Fidonet feed, please contact me.
- Micronet: For Micronet feeds, please visit the Micronet website at http://minftn.net.
- NixNet: The BBS is the US East Coast hub for NixNet, a FTN mail network focused on *NIX operating systems. If you’d like to join Nixnet, please contact me.
Offline mail is available via QWK and Blue Wave formats for all message areas including netmail (Blue Wave only).
If you need an offline mail reader, Multimail is a modern, feature-packed console mode (text-only) offline mail reader that supports the QWK and Blue Wave offline mail formats for DOS, OS/2, Win32/64, Linux, FreeBSD, and OS X.

All Cheepware programs are available for download in the Cheepware file area on Outpost BBS, via anonymous FTP to bbs.outpostbbs.net in /pub/local/cheep or on the Cheepware webpage.
Files
Outpost offers a good-sized filebase with an eclectic mix of files covering a wide range of interests such as ANSI/RIP graphics, e-books (PDF), BBSing, amateur radio, OS/2 support, programming, home and hobby, and food-related files. In addition, we offer selected areas from the Fidonet filebone (networked file areas) and the entire Micronet and Nixnet filebones.
There will be a lot more files coming as time permits.
The Outpost BBS FTP server is available at bbs.outpostbbs.net via anonymous FTP with access to the Cheepware filebase; the Fidonet, Micronet, and NixNet network filebones; and a few other miscellaneous areas. Full access is available to verified BBS users and invited guests to prevent misuse of system resources.
