I've used Maximus BBS and its associated Squish mail tosser for over 25 years now. Maximus is a reliable, powerful, and very configurable BBS. Squish is also reliable and powerful. They're a great combination for any BBS sysop.
If you are using the stock Maximus and Squish versions (v3.01), you can get some community support in the MUFFIN (Maximus BBS) and TUB (Squish) echoes in Fidonet or in MIN_BBS in Micronet.

When installing Maximus for the first time, follow these steps:
For example, if I was going to install the OS/2 version of Max, I'd install in order MAX301C.ZIP, MAX301P.ZIP, and finally MAX301P2.ZIP.

Both Maximus and Squish are open source under the GPL 2.0 license. If you work with the source code, you're on your own. Maximus' original author left the BBS scene decades ago and has never looked back.
